Ghost

By Elmina

The room was cold when he woke up. He glanced at the clock on the nightstand; it was midnight. He knew it would be for the best if he just went back to sleep, but all things considered that wasn't so simple.

People called him J, and he was about twenty years old. That was all he knew; he could not recall the first nineteen years of his life. Sure, he still knew how to speak and how to ride a bike, but... He had no memories. It had been like this for a year now, and he was starting to give up hope about ever remembering anything. He had seen a couple of doctors, but they couldn't offer an explanation that would have made sense to him. Amnesia... It was like something had wiped his memory, and he had no idea what it was.

He didn't know the people who had arranged a place for him to stay. He had the feeling they might have known something, but he knew his questions wouldn't be answered. There had to be a real reason why those people were helping him, but finding that out was impossible.

Midnight. He reluctantly got up and went to get some water from the kitchen. The apartment was dark, and for some reason, the shadows lurking around the corners felt threatening.

That dream again, he idly pondered as he stopped to look out of the window. The street outside was empty and surely a lot colder than the room.

That dream... He knew he had had it several times, but he could never remember it. He knew it had something to do with his past, but he didn't know what. It kept coming back, and yet he couldn't remember what it was. He sometimes thought he could almost recall something from it; someone's face or a detail from the environment, or maybe a sound... But in the end, he couldn't.

Just a dream about... nothing.

Sighing, he turned around and went back to bed.

Somewhere else in the world, a man who called himself Genya Arikado sat behind a desk in a small office. He looked at the papers in front of him one more time before he picked them up and put them through the paper shredder. Those papers had been copies of official documents; only the originals remained now. They were in his possession, and only a couple of people in the world knew that.

A young man named Julius Belmont... For any civilians who might have known this man, he was now only a lost memory, a ghost of the past. For anyone who might have tried to find him, he was dead. Julius Belmont did not exist.

Unless his soul returns, and finds the castle...

Arikado closed his eyes, and prayed that that would never happen.

END.

Author's notes:

So Julius had amnesia. He had 35 years before AoS, and he never found any clue about who he really is, with all the technology and stuff we have available in the modern day?

My theory: The others (Arikado and other vampire hunters) were protecting him. Because, you know, he killed Drac. Unfortunately, he doesn't remember how to fight vampires etc. after that. Hiding the fact that he's still alive keeps 'em crazy Drac-worshipping cults etc. from killing him, and all? ^^;
